Some of the opinions I class as my own in this song have changed but it's really a song about trying to figure out where you stand on subjects and hoping that you're not in the wrong, despite opinions being subjective. It's about trying to pin how you feel about things and I think some of the clumsy confusion comes through in the lyrics. This is pretty much an ode to stumbling in the dark when it comes to morals and playing music and reading books instead of actively taking a stand because it's really easy to doubt yourself because your opinions can and may change.
